“O Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me.” Psalm 30:2
Does God still heal people today? Well, we know that the names of God reveal the reality of His nature. And the name Jehovah-Rapha means “The Lord Your Healer.” We also know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So yes, the name of God brings healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
A.W. Tozer said, “Anything God has ever done, He can do now. Anything God has ever done anywhere, He can do here. Anything God has ever done for anyone, He can do for you.” We need to be careful to not read the Bible as just a history book, recording what God has already done. God’s Word is a testimony of promise for all that He can still do.
So as you pray for others, praise the name of Jehovah-Rapha, believing that the Lord can heal mind, body, and soul. For instance, if you’re praying for a couple experiencing hurt in their marriage, ask Jehovah-Rapha to heal any bitterness and unforgiveness. If you’re praying for people who are physically sick, then call on the name of “The Lord your Healer” to touch their bodies. And when you pray for the lost, ask God to open their eyes to truth so they can experience spiritual healing for their soul.
There’s an important aspect of praying for others we sometimes forget. We need to make sure that we’re spiritually clean in order for our prayers to be heard clearly. James instructs us to, “Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much” (James 5:16). Our actions show whether or not we truly believe this verse. You see, if we fail to obey what God’s Word says about confessing our own sin, then how can we call on His name to heal someone else?
Finally, don’t be intimidated because you can’t answer questions that only God can answer. Too often, we let what we don’t know keep us from following through on what we do know. We may not understand why God doesn’t heal everyone but we do know that it’s in His nature to heal. So, we’re not praying in blind faith. We’re asking God to heal based on who Scripture says He is. Pray for His will to be accomplished then leave it in His hands. Remember today, the name of God brings healing.
